Entrepreneur Abdul is working to set up a private equity platform which plans to develop into an international business. Here's his story,
"My name is Abdul Hameed Bakali, aged 22. I am from Blantyre, Malawi. I obtained my Malawi school certificate of education (MSCE) at PACT secondary school in 2017, and currently, I am studying Level 6 ABE Business management and Marketing. Currently, I am working on developing my start-up company named Intellectual Capital Corporate. The company focuses mainly on private equity, which typically refers to investment funds, generally organised as limited partnerships, that buy and restructure companies. What inspired me to start this private equity was to provide a platform for long-term investment funding for big, small, and medium-sized enterprises. Its foundation was inspired by the fact that smaller businesses faced a gap in available corporate finance due to the banks being unwilling to provide long-term capital and the companies being too small to raise capital from public markets.
I personally chose ABE because it is recognised internationally for providing excellent qualifications, it is comprised of a multi-skills curriculum. It is a professional course and also there is a huge possibility that the qualification holder can work in foreign countries, unlike other qualification boards. In Malawi, employers and the public value prospective employees with an ABE qualification as they possess a wide variety of knowledge in overall business dynamics.
After completing the ABE qualifications, I am planning to study a financial management course, commit myself to my start-up company, get a temporary job, just to raise money, and lastly move to Japan to start my career in private equity.
The best thing about studying ABE is that you learn more and every aspect involved in business. The main skills that I have gained from studying ABE are understanding and coping with any changes regarding the business, management skills, marketing skills, financial literacy, auditing skills, and the ability to develop and maintain relationships in the business ecosystem.
A successful way to study is mainly focusing on understanding the whole concept other than memorising and also practising the theory.
My long-term career plans for the future is to work in, and have a global private equity firm."
