Here is Bisent's story:
I'm Bisent Khuluso from Blantyre, Malawi; aged 29 and single. I'm a second-born child in a family of 4 children; of which I'm the first son. I'm a holder of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE - highest local qualification); and a holder of ABE Level 6 Diploma in Business Management.
JIBS Security Services is a security service provider having approximately 700 employees across Malawi. It offers various security services such as guarding, dog handling, alarm systems, private investigations, rapid response, VIP security, events protections, cash in transit, etc.
As a control room officer:
- I monitor security radios, surveillance cameras, and team viewer & watch manager security systems
- Maintain the control of equipment’s delivered to the control room
- Documenting vehicle routines (vehicle tracking)
- Updating clients of any security system changes occurring within the firm, etc.
While working as a security guard with Ursa Security International (U.S.I) in July 2016, I started studying ABE Level 4 in Business Management at Pact College.
Through this job, I managed to complete ABE Level 4 Diploma in December 2016 and part of Level 5. The completion of Level 5 and 6 Diploma was through working with G4S as a trooper.
It required me to apply time management skills for both my work and my studies to gain ABE qualifications as combining both the work (a security guard) and my studies was very hard.
I had a desire to study shipping and logistics, but when I met with my secondary school friend who by then was studying ABE Level 5 Diploma in Human Resource Management at Pact College; she introduced me to ABE and encouraged me to study this qualification.
Gaining ABE qualifications has helped me to have a wide range of career opportunities and degree programs (both local and international) that I can pursue. It has also equipped me with different business management and strategic planning skills that I can apply while working or running my own business.
In my current role, I enjoy working hand in hand with clients whenever there are security system changes/updates. This allows me to boost effective communication skills with stakeholders.
The most important thing while studying is to believe in God who has the ability to provide wisdom and knowledge to everyone who asks it from Him.
Despite this, they should develop a goal that they should focus on. This will help them to know what they want to achieve in life and at the end of their career path and help them to stay concentrated. For example, despite the financial challenges I have been facing during my career path, I had a goal to complete Level 6 Diploma, whether it may take longer or not. Students have to work hard for their studies and need to believe in themselves, and that they can make it.
In addition, students should not give up regardless of whether there are financial problems, failures, and other problems that can affect their studies. Upon meeting some of these obstacles, they should keep going.
