Phillip Jere is a goal-oriented person and is currently studying for a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. He holds an Associate degree in Business Management from the University of the People.

Here is Phillip's story:

My name is Phillip Jere, was born on 7th November 1987 in a family of 4 and I happen to be the second born and the only boy in the family. I was born in the southern part of Malawi in Blantyre and Ndirande township. I was raised by my mum because my dad passed on 1999.

I am currently in my 4th Year last semester studying for a Bachelors degree in Business Management and Entrepreneurship at the Malawi College of Accountancy, I have an associate degree in Business Management from the University of the People – US. I obtained my ABE Level 6 Diploma in Human Resource Management in 2017. My experience with ABE has been amazing, I made myself a promise to always work hard and pass in one go.

I am a goal-oriented person I do not believe in being lucky but being smart and making the right decisions. I push myself to challenge myself and make sure that I have achieved what I desire.

I am currently working with a state-owned company called the Malawi Posts Corporation. The organisation has a network of over 180 offices across the country and currently has 850 members of staff.  I work as a postal officer; other duties include helping customers by delivering postal services and other services that the organisation provides. The role requires one to have people management skills, analytical skills, decision-making skills, and customer care skills, I am able to deliver and be among the best employees because of the knowledge that I got after studying with ABE.

I got the job with an ABE diploma as a help desk officer, after completing my level 6 I got promoted to the post of Postal Assistant. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I enrolled with the University of the People and got an associate degree in business management after studying for 2 years. With the level 6 Diploma I enrolled with the Malawi College of Accountancy in year 3, it has been an exciting and challenging journey but very rewarding. The expectation is that once I am done with my management studies, I will get a promotion, or opportunities from other companies arise.

Without ABE qualification I would have been probably lost, I was not selected for any public university and as such it was difficult to proceed with school without being sure of what to do next. I then heard a radio advert encouraging those that have been selected not to give up but go and register with an arm of the University of Malawi and study different professional programmes which are fully recognised by the Ministry of Education and appreciated by corporate companies. After gaining an ABE qualification I got a chance to do an internship at one of the leading advisement companies in Malawi. That was an encouragement and I made sure that I finished my level 6 so as to go for a degree and start in third year.

What I enjoy most about my job:

  1. Helping customers in sending and receiving mail both local and international
  2. Selling postal services like postage stamps and other stationery
  3. Helping customers in receiving and sending money

The University of Malawi's annual intake keeps on going low, such being the case when this happens children often lose track of life. ABE is a professional body that will help you make a good future and the decision of choosing ABE is the best and you will never have any regrets.

ABE requires hard work and commitment, always avoid procrastination and make sure that you plan your semester well. The course outlines are well-updated and make students think outside the box. It requires sacrifices.
